物ばかりが財産ではない あらゆる体験も貴重な財産である
"Mono bakari ga zaisan de wanai arayuru taiken mo kichona zaisan de aru"
Literally translated:
Things are not assets, your experiences are precious and are assets.
Interpretation:
"The only valuable things you will ever own are experiences."
There is a natural tendency for people to want to acquire money, gold, houses and real estate in an attempt to prepare for the future;
Then there are some people who want the same for appearance or to impress people, or in order to feel good about themselves.
There is an illusion in both points of view as to what an asset truly is. Experiences, both good and bad, are the only true assets we will ever posses. One should seek to make life pleasurable and comfortable for those around them, as it is mutually beneficial. However one should not just seek out and learn from enjoyable experiences, but they should welcome hardships. Pain and suffering teach the life lessons of patience, co-operation, ingenuity, persistence, fortitude, willpower, compassion and determination. From pain we learn to harden the spirit and toughen the flesh, and those lessons are truly considered valuable in life.
